The Third Weltladen in South Tyrol
The Weltladen Taufers opened on 13 November 1988. After those of Brixen and Bozen it was the third Weltladen in South Tyrol and thus the third in Italy. A group of open-minded people embraced the idea of fair trade and saw in it a concrete way to contribute to contrast the unjust structures of the global economy.
The Weltladen Taufers is a registered ONLUS association. The executive board consists of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and two other board members. The board is elected for three years by the General assembly. The General assembly is composed by all volunteers.
Managed exclusively by volunteers
The Weltladen is currently managed by around 30 people- exclusively volunteers. Besides pure sales activities, the employees strive through various events and exhibitions, to increase awareness of fair trade and deepen its understanding. Happily, some young volunteers are members of the team and help where possible.
Small but powerful
The Weltladen presents itself in Johanneshaus opposite the church of Taufers. For the last 25 years, the owner of the premises, the parish Taufers, offered the location for free. The team is able to present a varied selection of food and crafts despite the limited available retail space. Almost every customer’s wish can be met be it through high quality food or little artisan work.
Popular meeting spot
A popular meeting place is the coffee shop located in the Weltladen. Here people meet for a chat; here you can obtain information about fair trade and the various activities of the Weltladen; here internal events for the team are held; school classes come and receive information enriching the lessons; and here you can simply just relax with a cup of coffee.
