Twigga, or the Giraffe

Astrid Aichner-Rigo and Josef Rigo worked as development aid workers in Tanzania from 1985 to 1987. After their return, they tried to set up a world shop. With active and moral support from the Third World Group Bruneck and the World Shop Sand in Taufers, they founded the association "Third World Shop Twigga St. Lorenzen" in 1991.
In 1993, a small shop opened in St. Lorenzen. The association put the name "Twigga" on the shop sign, meaning giraffe. The giraffe’s long neck is meant to symbolise looking beyond one’s own boundaries and interests, as well as openness to the beauty and problems of the world.
